Lee-Russell Aging Foundation Events & News
The Lee-Russell Aging Foundation is a 501C3 entity. Its intent is to raise awareness for aging related issues while raising funds to supplement the programs that are administered through the Area Agency on Aging at the Lee-Russell Council of Governments. Our feature events include:
- The 6th Annual "Unforgettable Footsteps Caregivers' Walk" is scheduled for Saturday, November 6th, at Tiger Town beginning at 9:00am - for more information please contact Leisa.Askew@adss.alabama.gov.
- LRCOG, through its Ombudsman Program, will host an Annual Long-Term Care Conference, August 26, 2010. Interested individuals and community agencies will be invited to this conference to learn about the options for long-term care for their clients, themselves, and their loved ones. The conference will have education sessions, networking opportunities, and presentations by key members of the long-term care community. Participants will learn how to plan for long-term care by knowing what to expect, legal issues regarding long-term care, types of facilities, financing options including insurance information, end of life preparation and information on recognizing and avoiding financial exploitation. Additionally, the conference will offer various levels of sponsorships for local agencies and/or businesses to provide participants with information on the type of services that can be provided during the long-term care process. Annual Long-Term Care Conference Sponsorship Form (requires Adobe Acrobat)
- LRCOG will host Barrier to Care in Chronic Illness, August 23, 2010 from 9:00am-10:00am. The presenter will be Julie Wells, Diabetic Educator at the EAMC Diabetes Treatment Center. The workshop will be held at the Goodwill Career Center: 3740 Pepperell Parkway Opelika, AL 36801. Pre-registration is required due to limited seating. - LRCOG Area Agency on Aging will host the Annual Caregivers Legal Conference at EAMS Health Resource Center, September 14, 2010. The training will begin at 8:30am and end at 4:00pm-for more information please see attached flyer below and/or contact Leisa.Askew@adss.alabama.gov.
ANNUAL CAREGIVERS LEGAL CONFERENCE FLYER
- Every last Monday of each month, LCROG Area Agency on Aging will host the Care-N-Share Support Group meeting at the Opelika Sportsplex. The times for the meetings are 7:00am, 12:00pm and 6:00pm CST -for more information please contact Leisa.Askew@adss.alabama.gov.

Recycle on Behalf of the Lee-Russell Aging Foundation: The Lee-Russell Aging Foundation is now making recycling part of its long term plan for fundraising and staying eco-friendly. The Area Agency on Aging staff has set up a recycling center to be able to recycle computer printer ink cartridges and unused or older cell phones. Please feel free to drop donations of these objects at the Lee-Russell of Governments, Monday through Friday between 8 am and 4 pm cst.
